The Artista Creation is the product of local talented artists who showcase their skills in making stunning functional art.

Artist Bio:

Jorge Lopez, age 56

S. El Monte, CA

My passion to create art started as a little boy, in the 1970’s.  I would watch Popeye the Sailor with My Dad as a sunday morning ritual.  Tom Hatten was the first artist I saw sketch, and create art. He was my inspiration. 

I remember sneaking into my siblings backpacks and "borrowing" lined paper from their  spiral notebooks. I would use anything, blank backsides of perfectly opened envelopes, the insides of cereal boxes. I would carefully cut the boxes using my dad's used razors and draw all over them. I used pencil, ballpoint pen and crayons. I used burnt pieces of wood “Charcoal.” I’d dig a little hole in the dirt, add little water and use my favorite paintbrush using layers of earth for different tones. As time passed Dad and I went to Standard Brands Paint Store where Dad bought me my first watercolor palette. Then the creativity took over. Those Sunday morning art rituals really ignited my passion to create.

Currently, I don't have a favorite medium. I have never used oil, I can't wait to go broke when I do!

If I had to choose between The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, I'd choose Van Halen!

I have always admired Ernie Barns' work. I am a huge fan of his complete collection of work. 

I will always be a bodyboarder at heart. I sincerely enjoy photographing at The Wedge, and at all the USA Bodysurfing contests.

My message for young artists:

Don’t be afraid to set the right side of your brain free. Create! 

Life! 

The more you practice, the better you get.
